HOW THIS ALL STARTED ?
In my family has always been dogs, my Grandfather and Father had Finnish Hounds and when I
was twelve years old I finally got my own dog. It was short hair Dachshund male called
Juuso. Juuso has now gone over the Rainbow Bridge, but he is never forgotten. He was nice
little fellow and gave so much.
Basset Hounds find their way into My heard in early nineties, mostly because of my
husband. My husband knew beautiful tricolour Basset Hound male called Hooligan and by that
way fell in love to that unique breed . He decided that, when he some day has an
opportunity to take a dog, it's going to be a Basset Hound. By that time I had a totally
opposite opinion of our new dog breed - I was convinced that it should be an English
Bulldog - Somehow or another I found myself holding basset puppy in my arms ......
and now you probably guess how that moment ended? Who could resist a basset puppy?...... I
held that beautiful baby smelled puppy and bang - basset fever hit - My husband has
somehow or an other regretted that moment. Who could believed that one little puppy can
multiply our dog amount....... Well without Our first Basset Hound Tervehovi Maasto
Maccra´s outstanding temper, that multiple event has probably not happened. He wasn't any
show star, but He was a big personality with big P. I'm eternally grateful that I was able
to know and own Him, even He spend such a short while with Us, dieing so young to
leukaemia. But He was the biggest reason to set my basset fever on fire.
If I'm totally honest, I have to admit that during these years I have lost control with
bassets and Our home has turned out as a doggy Zoo. Nowadays My family consist from Me,
from my patient husband Sami and our beautiful baby girl Sohvi as well as from Our Basset
Hounds and late nineties also one Bracco Italiano came into picture. (How Bracco came to
us, its totally different story..... I will tell it some other time! )
Our dogs are our family members. They live inside with Us, conquer Our soffas, and keep Us
spry with Their tricks. And if the time enoughs, We trop by dog shows and sometimes
to blood tracking tests. But most of all Our dogs are just pets and Our companions.
I'm actively along in Finland's Basset Club; many years as a trustee member and Club's
President. As a breeder I'm taking babies steps and learning every day something new. I
have enthusiasm to breed healthy, good temper and nice moved hounds.
Trying to broad a basset store of Finland and have the most best dogs to start breeding
work, I have imported dogs from abroad. A male Bassbarr Gilbertsson came
from Mr Bill O´Louglin, Great
Britain in 2000. I´m grateful to own such a fantastic dog as He is - I want to thank Bill
of this wonderful male. I have also imported two bitches from Carla Gerber, Netherlands:
Hopeless
in Love V. Hollandheim and year after Used to be in Love V.
Hollandheim. They both are beautiful young girls and carrying the most interesting
lines. I'm happy that Carla gave me a chance to have them. In 2003 I imported Swede Sun´s
Florina from Paula and Richard Sunebring,
Sweden. She is a daughter of two world famous bassets; sire: SPCH PORTCH DKCH FINCH WW-01
KBVH-03 FINV-03 Come and Get Me dos Sete Moinhos and dam: NV-99 NV-00 NV-01 SV-00 SV-01
NORDUCH LUXCH FINUCH CHCH GBCH Swede Sun's Klara. And 2004 Joke of Love z Gangu Dlugich
came from Barbara Larska, Poland.
I don't know what life without dogs would have been. But I know that with them it has
been; rewarding, educational and refreshing. In some point this "doggy hobby"
has turned out as a way of living. It has taken so much but given much much more. Last but
not least comes all good friends, what I have opportunity to have during these years.
Though someone of You, I'm going to be dept of gratitude for the rest of my life, especially to my
"basset hound tutor" ; Annukka Harvala from kennel
Woodhead, who has always being there with her advices, when I have needed a friend
most!
